Organic Turkey

Organic food is produced according to a set of agricultural production practices described in the Organic Production Systems General Principles and Management Standards, which were developed by the Canadian General Standards Board (CGSB) in consultation with the organic industry. There are a number of different certification bodies who can certify that organic farmers meet these standards and comply with the required production practices.

New Organic Products Regulations, which came into effect in June 2009, require mandatory certification to the Organic Production Systems General Principles and Management Standards for any agricultural products represented as organic in import, export and inter-provincial trade, or that bear the federal organic agricultural product legend (or logo). The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is responsible for enforcing the Regulations.
