Raising turkeys is part of a sustainable Canadian agriculture sector. Canadian turkey farmers are making improvements in productivity that have benefitted the environment, such as improved feed conversions, reduced land use, fewer inputs for crop production, less manure and greenhouse gas emissions.

Turkey farmers reinvest in their farms and industries by way of world-leading research, innovation, food safety, and bird care. Improvements to feed efficiency over the last 40 years are reducing the carbon footprint of turkey production.

Farmers upgrade their facilities for any number of reasons, however from our last survey more than 80% indicated investment to improve environmental sustainability.
